アンモナイトセンターには、約8,900万年前のアンモナイト等の化石が集中して発見された地層をそのまま建物で覆った施設と隣接する屋外体験発掘場があります。
屋外体験発掘場では、館内と同じ地層をハンマーやタガネを使って、化石の発掘体験ができ、化石となった生物が生きていた遥か遠い昔の地球から、現在の地球に生きるわたしたちへと続いてきた「いのち」とその母体となった地球のすばらしさ・ふしぎさを実感できる空間でもあります。

The Ammonite Center is a facility built on a stratum where fossils of ammonites and other fossils were discovered in concentrated concentrations approximately 89 million years ago, and has an outdoor excavation area adjacent to the building.
Visitors to the outdoor dig site can experience the excavation of fossils using hammers and trowels in the same strata as those found in the museum, and experience the wonder and mystery of the Earth, the mother of “life” and the life that has continued from the distant past, when fossil creatures lived, to the present day, when we live on the Earth.
