The Sendai Tanabata Festival is one of the three major festivals in the Tohoku region, held in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, from August 6th to August 8th every year. The festival’s distinctive feature is the collaboration of “paper and bamboo,” creating magnificent sasa decorations. These decorations feature dazzling washi paper adorned on bamboo stalks of over 10 meters in length, intertwined with the summer breeze, creating a poetic scene. Elaborately designed sasa decorations, including vibrant streamers, form arches along the shopping streets, making the Tanabata Festival the largest of its kind in Japan. With over 2 million visitors each year, it becomes a vibrant spectacle that captivates the imagination.
